Referendum in the Media..

The newspapers that had been looked at for the referendum, were not as detailed as one might want. The articles that were found in different newspapers were mostly letters to the editors', and insignificant little passages no good to the average person. For me personally, I didn't feel the the referendum was represented, nor described as well as it could have been. I found that all of the articles that were found, focused more on the actual election than on the referendum. Most of the articles found were representing the sides of each party, and what they are promising to do if elected. The newspaper that I focused on was the Hamilton Spectator, and that didn't really get me far with information, or knowledge on the actual referendum. I don't think that the media treated the issue very well, because for the longest time, I had never even heard of it let alone know what it was and what it entailed. The Toronto Star had a few good articles explaining the referendum in a bit more detail than others, but most newspapers just briefly mentioned it and brushed it off as nothing. Some of the newspapers did compare the pros and cons of the referendum which was helpful in comparing the two options. Am I for or against the referendum? It's hard to say as I'm not old enough to vote, but from what I know, this is what I think. I'm against the referendum at this point in time because of an article that was found in one of the Toronto newspapers. It explained that Italy had tried this procedure a few years back and it just caused more chaos and unstablility within the government. A system like that creates multiple parties, more than society is ready for.
